Digitization Requests

Clemson University Libraries Digitization Lab provides digitization services and consultations for a wide range of campus partners and beyond.  The Lab specializes in the digitization of unique cultural heritage resources for the purpose of long-term preservation and online access. We support a variety of print formats, including photographs, manuscripts, documents, oversize maps, and more. We do not support the scanning of office records or other business related paper. 

Before scanning material, we require each partner to complete a Digitization Request Form that outlines digitization and preservation needs. This supports the proper assessment of long-term storage and preservation requirements and ensures good stewardship of the digital files.

Depending on the scope of your project, you may need to consult our billing rates found here, but it’s best to fill out a request form first so that we can make the determination on whether your project will require extra funding. As stated, we are able to handle various formats but it is always best to contact us first to see if we can help. Our scanning equipment is capable of digitizing various print formats and sizes, but it is best to contact us first for a consultation to see if we can help.

Campus Partners

Thesis or Dissertation digitization requests

Libraries employees requesting thesis or dissertation digitization, please use the Thesis or Dissertation Digitization request form.. If you are a visitor to the library and would like electronic access to a thesis or dissertation not available in our online ETD repository, please make your request with Resource Sharing.

Community Partners

All institutions and organizations outside of Clemson University may request digitization of their cultural heritage materials by filling out the Proposal Form for community partners. This includes the groups below.

South Carolina cultural heritage institutions

Galleries, libraries, museums, archives, historical societies, and educational institutions may have their unique materials digitized by Clemson University for the South Carolina Digital Library (SCDL). Upstate collections will be digitized by Clemson and hosted by Furman’s CONTENTdm repository. Refer to the SCDL collection policy to determine whether proposals are likely to be accepted.

National and State Parks

National Park Service units may have their unique collections digitized by Clemson University as part of our parks digital library program, Open Parks Network. The Digitization Lab has worked with a large component of the Southeast Region of the National Parks, as well as other national and state park units across the country.
